The first time most people experience a skid is when it is actually happening to them! Most people's natural reaction is to panic or freeze which is the worst thing you can do. Skids don't just happen; they are caused when a tire loses its grip on the road surface normally through excessive speed, harsh braking or acceleration by the driver. The Skidpan Driving Experience will sensitize your reflexes to a skid (vehicle out of control, unstable condition) and enable your reflexes to respond, while your mind is otherwise still thinking about it. After a few hours on the skidpan drivers tend to be more confident with regard to their ability to react properly thereby preventing what could have been a nasty crash
The theory sessions will commence at 08h00 and last approximately 1 hour. Our skid pan is a purpose built training facility located away from public roads where we can simulate driving in all types of dangerous conditions such as snow, ice or wet roads. There is no substitute for 'hands-on' experience in our safe and controlled off road environment.
The day begins with a briefing to discuss the causes and remedies of skids and the discipline needed when driving in bad weather and adverse conditions. The driving commences thereafter with demonstrations by skilled instructors and continuous support for participants by way of instructor feedback and assistance.
The skid pan training course covers emergency braking, abs, under steer, over steer, skid control, traction control, aquaplaning and driving in bad weather.
The course also includes an explanation and demonstration of all the latest technology available on today’s vehicles.
